Anglican Church Honors Oborevwori with 'Defender of Faith' Award

In a momentous event, the Sapele Diocese of the Anglican Communion bestowed the prestigious 'Defender of Faith and Life Encourager' award upon the esteemed Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State.

The grand occasion took place during the 15th anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Sapele (Anglican Communion) and the Investiture of Knights and Ladies at Christ Church Pro-Cathedral in Sapele on a delightful Sunday.

Governor Oborevwori, who delivered the Old Testament lesson during the service, which centered around the theme "Exceeding Grace," took the opportunity to extend his heartfelt congratulations to Bishop Erifeta and the entire Sapele Diocese on their momentous milestone.

Amidst the joyous atmosphere, the Governor addressed the newly appointed Knights and Ladies of the Church, emphasizing the importance of unity within the Sapele Diocese of the Anglican Communion. He affirmed that peace was an essential element for the progress and prosperity of any nation.

The Governor expressed his pleasure at being part of the special 15th anniversary celebration and graciously accepted the honor bestowed upon him by the Sapele Diocese. He expressed his gratitude to the Diocese for deeming him worthy of such recognition and shared his commitment to further endeavors.

Governor Oborevwori expressed his desire to visit the main cathedral in Sapele during his next visit, underscoring the significance of recognizing the God one serves when assuming positions of authority and responsibility.

Highlighting the need for unity, the Governor drew parallels to his own journey, where he faced doubts and skepticism when aspiring to become Governor. However, through divine intervention, he achieved his goal. He emphasized that he regarded all citizens of Delta State as his own and pledged to serve them without discrimination.

The Governor recounted an incident where he visited the hospital to see the late Chief Frank Kokori, an opposition leader, during his illness. The gesture surprised Chief Kokori, as even those who had worked for him did not extend their support. Governor Oborevwori vowed to continue supporting Chief Kokori's family, demonstrating his belief that no one should be considered an enemy, and that everyone in Delta State should benefit from his leadership.

The Governor acknowledged the role he played in ensuring peace and security in Warri and other parts of the state, attributing it to divine guidance. He urged the church to persevere in spreading the word of God and winning souls for the Kingdom, as this would contribute to peace and security in the state.

During the sermon titled "Blessing of Obedience," delivered by Most Rev'd Cyril Odutemu, the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of Bendel and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, he emphasized the importance of obedience in achieving success in life. He congratulated Bishop Erifeta and the parishioners of the Sapele Diocese on their 15th anniversary and urged Christians to remain obedient to God, especially in these challenging times.

Rt. Rev'd Blessing Erifeta, the Bishop of Sapele Diocese, expressed his gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his personal attendance at the anniversary thanksgiving service. He regarded the Governor's presence as a testament to the boundless grace of God. Bishop Erifeta also acknowledged the church's ongoing partnership with the government, working together in prayer for the leaders and their governance, aiming to provide good governance for the country.
