North's Plan to Unseat Tinubu Poses Threat to Nigeria's Stability, Warns Shehu Sani

In a recent interview with Arise Television, former senator Shehu Sani expressed his concern over the growing movement within Northern Nigeria to replace President Bola Tinubu. Sani cautioned that such a political maneuver could potentially dismantle the unity of the country.

Sani, a well-known public commentator, urged Northern leaders to align themselves with Tinubu's policies and programs, which could bring substantial benefits to the region, instead of pursuing their own political ambitions. He highlighted the prevailing challenges of insecurity and poverty faced by Northern Nigeria.

"There are clear indications of political forces from the North rallying together, using former President Buhari as a focal point to oust the government of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu. Their intention is to revive Tinubu's political career by appealing to the masses and painting the incumbent government as neglecting the North's interests and failing to fulfill campaign promises made to the region, where it received significant support," Sani explained.

However, he issued a stern warning, emphasizing that such attempts could have grave consequences for the nation. Sani pointed out that during Buhari's eight-year tenure, no significant Southern figure had challenged his government's authority or attempted to remove him from office. He underscored the importance of prioritizing the unity and peaceful coexistence of the country, particularly in light of Nigeria's fragile state.

"If Southern politicians were to unite and take a similar stance in response, Nigeria would cease to exist. Therefore, in the interest of national unity and the future of our great nation, Northern leaders should set aside personal ambitions, at least until 2027, allowing the North to rightfully seek power after the completion of this administration's second term," Sani urged.

While stressing the need for Northern leaders to address the region's challenges, Sani also called on Tinubu's administration to implement a restructuring agenda. He emphasized that such systemic changes would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to tackle the country's pressing issues.
