Keke Riders Protest Peacefully Against New Delta State Government Policies

Rita Daniels

Sapele, Delta State– In a remarkable display of solidarity, keke riders in Sapele took to the streets on Monday to protest against new policies recently introduced by the Delta State Government. The riders, who rely on tricycles as their primary means of livelihood, expressed concerns that these regulations threaten their operations and financial stability. The protest, characterized by chants and peaceful demonstrations, highlighted the riders' determination to voice their grievances.

The protesters gathered at the local government secretariat, holding placards with messages calling for dialogue and reconsideration of the policies. Many riders articulated their fears that the new regulations, which include stricter licensing requirements and increased fees, could lead to job losses and hinder their ability to support their families. "We are not against the government; we just want our voices to be heard," said one rider, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "These policies could cripple our businesses and push us into poverty."

Local leaders and community members joined the keke riders in solidarity, emphasizing the importance of the tricycle transport system in the region. They called on the state government to engage in discussions with stakeholders to find a more balanced approach that considers the welfare of the riders while still addressing regulatory needs. As the protest concluded peacefully, the riders expressed hope that their concerns would lead to constructive dialogue, ensuring that their livelihoods are protected.
