RERO TV, a growing force in Delta State’s digital journalism scene, is set to mark its fifth anniversary on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. The milestone event will be held at the Wetland Event Centre in Sapele and is expected to draw notable figures from across the state, including media professionals, traditional leaders, and civil society groups.
Launched in early 2020 by Mr. Akporero Henry, RERO TV began as a small initiative during a time of personal hardship. With limited resources and a strong desire to tell local stories, Henry returned to Sapele after volunteering in Lagos, carrying only ₦6,000 and a dream. Supported by his family and mentored by experienced journalists, he started reporting with a mobile phone and an unshakable commitment to grassroots storytelling.
Over the past five years, the platform has evolved into a respected voice in community journalism. It has consistently promoted development at the grassroots level, encouraged youth participation in civic matters, and spotlighted stories that often go unnoticed by mainstream media. RERO TV’s coverage now reaches beyond Sapele, touching various parts of Delta State and southern Nigeria.
The upcoming anniversary celebration will feature prominent guests, with Okakuro Dr. Anthony Aghogho Owumi, the Omamigho of Okpe Kingdom, serving as Chairman of the occasion. The Special Guest of Honour will be His Royal Majesty, Udurhie I, Ph.D., the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom. Their attendance highlights the growing influence of RERO TV in regional affairs.
A keynote address will be delivered by Comrade Lucky Ighoyota, a well-known human rights advocate and development campaigner. His speech will focus on the critical role of local media in promoting inclusive development and amplifying the voices of underserved communities.
As part of the celebrations, RERO TV will present awards to selected NGOs in recognition of their work in humanitarian service, social justice, and community empowerment. Speaking ahead of the event, Mr. Akporero Henry expressed gratitude for the support the platform has received over the years, stating, “This journey has been one of faith, sacrifice, and purpose. We're proud of what we've built with the help of our community.”
The event will begin at 11:00 AM inviting the public.
