The Idjerhe Elite Youth for Development (IEYD) has called on the Delta State Government under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently address pressing issues affecting Idjerhe Kingdom and Ethiope West Local Government Area.

The youth body made the appeal in a communiqué issued at the end of its joint meeting held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Jesse Town, Ethiope West LGA, Delta State.

IEYD, a group of concerned youths committed to the progress and development of Idjerhe Kingdom, said its mission is to serve as a catalyst for positive change by holding leaders accountable, promoting good governance, and empowering the community for sustainable development.

In the communiqué signed by its leaders, the group commended Governor Oborevwori for his administration’s strides in road construction, hospital upgrades, and reforms in the education sector. However, it expressed displeasure over lingering challenges in Idjerhe Kingdom.

On Roads, the youths lauded the governor’s infrastructural projects across Delta State but lamented the deplorable condition of some roads in Idjerhe, calling for urgent rehabilitation.

Similarly, on healthcare, IEYD while acknowledging government’s efforts in upgrading health centres, the group decried the absence of a befitting ultra-modern hospital in Jesse Town and appealed for the establishment of one to meet the health needs of residents.

In the same vein, the group raised grave concern over the continued closure of Idjerhe Grammar School, Jesse’s only functional secondary school, which has been under lock for over eight months. It urged the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Tonukari, to intervene for its immediate reopening.

Moreso, IEYD called on government at all level to declare a state of emergency on hunger, citing high inflation and rising poverty. It also urged support for farmers through grants, incentives, and improved security to encourage food production.

Security was not left out as IEYD : demanded urgent implementation of the anti-grazing law and provision of adequate security to curb incessant attacks on farmers and residents. It further urged collaborative efforts between traditional rulers, security agencies, and community leaders to safeguard farmlands and lives.

In a related development, the youths appealed to residents of Idjerhe to shun cultism, drug abuse, and rape, warning that such vices threaten peace and community growth.

Additionally, IEYD decried the absence of a financial institution (Bank) in Jesse, stressing that residents risk their lives traveling to neighboring towns for banking transactions. It called on stakeholders to use their influence to attract a bank to Idjerhe.

On Youth Empowerment and Governance: The communiqué emphasized the need for skills acquisition programs and sustainable employment opportunities for youths. It also urged the governor to appoint capable Idjerhe youths into his cabinet as part of his MORE Agenda.

The group expressed optimism that Governor Oborevwori would soon hold a town hall meeting with youths across the state to further highlight his achievements and engage them in governance.

The communiqué was jointly signed by 12 youth of the IEYD  including Comrade Charles Odudu, Comrade G.V. Aghomi, and Comrade Simeon Umunu.
