SAPELE—In a historic ceremony, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRH Orhue 1 CFR, MNI, Major Gen. Felix Mujakperue (rtd), laid the foundation for a new Sub Palace in Sapele, emphasizing unity among Okpe Kingdom’s districts.

The groundbreaking event attracted a diverse gathering, including Okpe Chiefs from various districts, sons and daughters of Okpe, and residents of Sapele, showcasing the community's commitment to their heritage.

Speaking to the press, Chief Godwin Atose, a former Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area and the present national chairman of Okpe worldwide, highlighted the significance of this project as a priority for the current Orodje. "This Sub Palace is a continuation of a legacy," he noted, referencing the previous Orodjes, HRH Usezi 1 and Osezi 11, who utilized existing structures for engagements with the community.

Chief Atose emphasized that the new Sub Palace reflects a vision for Sapele and underscores its integral role in the Okpe Kingdom, which encompasses both Sapele and Okpe Local Government Areas.

Okakuro Anthony Aghogho Owumi echoed these sentiments, affirming that Sapele is part of Okpe land. He reiterated that discussions about land ownership in Sapele are unnecessary, as it belongs under the authority of one king—the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom.

During the ceremony, the Orodje clarified that the foundation-laying is not merely for a new palace but aims to establish a dignified Sub Palace. He recognized the historical significance of existing buildings, stating that they have served as a Sub Palace since the Colonial Era, enhancing ties with the community.

HRH Mujakperue I expressed his desire for a more befitting structure to symbolize the authority of the Okpe people in Sapele, reinforcing the unity of the kingdom across its geographical expanse.

As the ceremony drew to a close, the highlights included the symbolic foundation laying by the Orodje, a moment marked by the presence of spiritual leaders. Archbishop Goddey Iboyi, General Overseer of Promise Kingdom Assembly, concluded the event with a prayer, adding a spiritual dimension to the occasion.

With this initiative, the Orodje not only aims to elevate the physical presence of the kingdom but also to foster a deeper sense of identity and pride among the Okpe people of Delta State.

The day marked a significant milestone in the relationship between the Orodje and the community of Sapele, setting a foundation for future growth and development.

In remembrance of past leaders and their contributions, the Orodje’s vision reflects a seamless transition from tradition to the future, enriching the cultural landscape of Sapele.

The establishment of the Sub Palace signifies more than infrastructural growth; it symbolizes unity, authority, and the enduring legacy of the Okpe Kingdom.
