The newly posted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sapele Police Division, CSP Nosakhare Omo-Uwuigbe, has received the Executive and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening police-media relations and promoting effective collaboration. CSP Omo-Uwuigbe, who until his recent posting to Sapele served as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), expressed appreciation to the NUJ delegation led by the Chapel Chairman and senior journalist, Comrade Nelson Agbajor. He described the media as a vital institution in society and emphasized the important role of journalists as the Fourth Estate of the Realm, while calling for a strong and mutually beneficial partnership between the police and the media.
The DPO urged journalists to uphold professionalism and objectivity, particularly in reporting security-related matters. He advised members of the press to verify information thoroughly before publication, noting that responsible journalism is essential to maintaining peace, public confidence and security. In his response, NUJ Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, expressed satisfaction with the warm reception accorded the delegation and formally welcomed CSP Omo-Uwuigbe to Sapele. He stressed that security is everybody’s responsibility and assured the DPO of the cooperation and support of the NUJ and members of the media in promoting peace and security in the area.
Comrade Agbajor, however, called on officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to continue to uphold professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights and effective communication in handling security and civil matters. He noted that a cordial relationship between the police and the media would enhance public enlightenment, strengthen community confidence and contribute to a safer Sapele. The courtesy visit was attended by officers of the Sapele Police Division, members of the NUJ Sapele Chapel Executive and other chapel members, with both sides expressing optimism that the engagement would mark the beginning of a stronger and more productive police-media partnership.
