NUJ Expresses Concern Over Journalist's Mysterious Death, Urges Police Investigation

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has raised alarm following the death of Hamisu Danjibga, a Correspondent of Voice of Nigeria in Zamfara State. NUJ is calling on the authorities to investigate the incident and uncover the truth surrounding his demise.

Hamisu Danjibga went missing last Sunday after being abducted from his home in Gusau by unidentified individuals. Tragically, his lifeless body was discovered three days later, on September 20, 2023, in a soakaway behind his house. The stench of his decomposing body alarmed pupils and teachers from a nearby Islamia School, who stumbled upon the scene.

In a statement, Dr. Chris Isiguzo, the National President of NUJ, expressed concern over the incident and strongly condemned any act of intimidation against journalists. The union suspects that Hamisu's death was an attempt to silence journalists and hinder their freedom of expression. NUJ emphasized the importance of ensuring safety guarantees for journalists, enabling them to work without fear of being targeted for their valuable contributions.

NUJ called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter, establish the facts surrounding the incident, and hold those responsible for this heinous act accountable. The union believes that journalists should be able to work freely and safely, without the looming threat of violence or intimidation.
