Through a series of innovative policies and appointments, the Governor is steadfastly working to establish a more just and equitable society for all.
On a recent occasion, history was made as the Governor unveiled his new cabinet - the most gender diverse in all of Nigeria. A full 50% of positions were awarded to highly qualified women, more than doubling the national average. This reinforced Kwara's title as the foremost champion of women's leadership in government. But the Governor's vision of inclusion extends far beyond matters of gender.
Recognizing the vital role that supportive policies can play in empowering communities, the Governor approved an optional six month maternity leave for civil servants. This groundbreaking move aims to encourage exclusive breastfeeding among new mothers, bringing immense benefits to both child and parent. Kwara now joins a small group of states actively promoting maternal wellbeing.
Inclusiveness is also demonstrated through programs uplifting the disadvantaged, be they aged, impoverished, differently abled or living with disability. Two monumental appointments saw a blind man and wheelchair-bound individual elevated to the prestigious role of Permanent Secretary. By entrusting leadership to those society often neglects, the Governor sends a resounding message - that in Kwara, one's potential is defined not by appearance or condition, but by merit and character alone.
These progressive actions carry great significance. By intentionally supporting marginalized demographics, the Governor fosters conditions where all may reach their fullest potential. A more equitable distribution of opportunity inherently strengthens the community as a whole. Most importantly, it gives hope; that regardless of birth or circumstance, one's dreams need not die for lack of access or chance. This is the true promise of good governance - to counter imbalance, and render real the rights we declare for all.
