In a significant development, Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor. The bail amount was set at three hundred million naira, and Emefiele is required to provide two sureties who own landed property in Maitama. The sureties must deposit the certificate of occupancy of their properties as part of the bail conditions. Additionally, Emefiele is to deposit his travel documents.
Pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions, the judge has ordered that Emefiele be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The full trial of the former CBN governor is scheduled to commence on November 28th.
