In a significant development, Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Emefiele has been granted bail in the sum of three hundred million naira, subject to certain conditions. He must provide two sureties who own landed property in the prestigious Maitama area, and they are required to deposit the certificate of occupancy of their properties.
However, pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions, Emefiele is to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The judge has ordered that he remains in custody until the requirements for bail are met.
It is noteworthy that the full trial of the former CBN governor is scheduled to commence on November 28th. Until then, Emefiele will remain in the custody of the Kuje Correctional Centre, awaiting the fulfillment of his bail conditions.
