Sani Yakubu Noma, a federal lawmaker representing Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency of Kebbi State at the National Assembly, has taken a significant step towards improving the welfare of orphans in his constituency. He has planned a marriage ceremony for 100 female orphans, aiming to provide them with a stable foundation for their future lives.
Noma shared his intentions with journalists in his hometown of Argungu, Kebbi State. The event is scheduled to take place at the esteemed Palace of the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, on Saturday. To ensure the success of the initiative, a dedicated committee has been established.
The selected women for marriage come from the two local government areas that Noma represents in the National Assembly. In preparation for the ceremony, the lawmaker has already procured essential items such as beds, mattresses, furniture, and other matrimonial commodities for the beneficiaries.
While this initiative may seem unconventional to some, assisting women in finding suitable matches is not uncommon in the northern region of Nigeria. In a similar vein, the Kano State Government recently organized a mass wedding for approximately 1,700 couples. The state government provided furniture, food items, and clothing materials to support the newlyweds, spending over N800 million on the endeavor.
The Hisbah board commander, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, who inspected the items for the mass wedding, revealed that each bride would receive a set of beds with mattresses and pillows, as well as N20,000 to start a business. The recipients were selected based on specific criteria, and those who divorced their spouses shortly after marriage would be responsible for reimbursing the state government for the acquired products.
In a bid to uplift the lives of disadvantaged women, Sani Yakubu Noma's marriage project aims to provide a positive start for 100 female orphans, offering them stability, support, and hope for a brighter future.
