DELTA STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTRICAL COMMISSION (DSIEC) ENSURES PEACEFUL ELECTION ACROSS THE STATE..

By Rita Daniel

Despite disappointingly low voter participation, the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) successfully conducted her local government elections for chairmanship and councilorship seats. The elections was closely monitored by reporters in Sapele, Oghara, Jesse, and Mosogar.

Although there were initial delays in the arrival of electoral materials, the polling booths across various units in DSIEC wards remained calm. Voters displayed little enthusiasm, resulting in low voter turnouts. However, the presence of party agents and a noticeable police presence helped maintain a relaxed atmosphere while awaiting the arrival of materials.

Certain wards, including wards 1, 3, 5, 6, and 2, experienced peaceful proceedings and swift completion of the elections. The timely reception of materials and the presence of party agents ensured orderly conduct in wards 3, 5, and 6.

In Mercpherson, Ajimele, Ogorode Road, and surrounding areas, all eligible voters demonstrated peaceful behavior throughout the elections. There were no arguments or confrontations, thanks to the diligent monitoring by police personnel.

Despite the low voter turnouts, DSIEC's efforts to ensure peaceful elections are commendable. The commission's coordination with party agents and the presence of law enforcement personnel contributed to maintaining order and security during the electoral process. As Delta State moves forward, it is essential to encourage greater civic participation and engagement to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote in ward 10, Hon. Cyril Abeye Ogodo , director general, Sapele local government area People's Democratic Party (PDP) campaign organization said , the election was peaceful, free and fair and that he is optimistic that PDP will emerge victorious.

In the same turn, the Honorable commissioner for environment, Hon. Ejiro Jamani told reporters that the election was peaceful, free and transparent noting that PDP have worked hard during the campaign and will definitely be victorious without a fight.
