Delta State Government Intensifies Crackdown on Unapproved Schools

In a significant move to regulate the educational sector, the Delta State Government has recently shut down six unapproved schools located in the Oshimili-North Local Government Area. This operation is part of a broader initiative to ensure that all educational institutions comply with the state’s registration requirements.

The announcement was made by Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, the Commissioner for Primary Education, during a monitoring exercise aimed at assessing compliance with the government’s directives on school registration. Speaking to reporters in Okpanam, Dr. Ashibogwu emphasized the importance of adhering to the regulations in place to safeguard the quality of education provided to children in the state.

Among the affected institutions are Splendour Care Nursery and Primary School, Immortal Dominion Academy, and Glorious Height Nursery and Primary School. The list also includes Magnified Mercy Nursery and Primary, CossyJully Academy, and Ducams Schools, all situated in Okpanam, Oshimili-North LGA.

Dr. Ashibogwu highlighted that the closure of these schools was necessitated by their operation without the requisite government approval and the provision of unauthorized educational programs. He reiterated that the ministry had previously issued several warnings to all unregistered primary schools, urging them to comply with the legal requirements.

“This decision is not meant to witch-hunt anybody but to ensure the academic well-being of our dear children,” Dr. Ashibogwu stated, underlining the government's commitment to providing a safe and regulated educational environment. He urged parents to verify the registration status of schools before enrolling their children.

The Commissioner reassured the public that the affected schools would remain sealed until they obtain the necessary approvals from the state government through the Ministry of Primary Education. This action reflects the government’s determination to uphold educational standards and protect students from subpar learning environments.

As the crackdown continues, the Delta State Government is hopeful that these measures will encourage more schools to comply with registration procedures, ultimately enhancing the quality of education in the region.
