A Delta State based civil society organization, Good Governance for Change, has commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sapele Division, CSP Johnbull Obioguru, for what it described as his outstanding commitment to crime fighting, community policing, and infrastructural development within the division.

The group gave the commendation during a joint stakeholders’ meeting held in Asaba, the Delta State capital, where members reviewed security strategies and explored avenues for collaboration with relevant security agencies across the state, using the Sapele Division as a model of effective policing.

Speaking at the meeting on Sunday, February 1, 2026, the leader and president of Good Governance for Change, Mr. Obi G. Egweh, said the organization was impressed by the pragmatic and professional approach adopted by CSP Obioguru and his officers in tackling crime and criminality in Sapele.

According to Mr. Egweh, the zero-tolerance stance on crime declared by the Sapele DPO and consistently enforced by his men has contributed significantly to the relative peace currently enjoyed in the area, earning the trust and cooperation of residents.

He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the police and members of the public, noting that security is a shared responsibility that thrives best when citizens and law enforcement agencies work together in mutual trust and understanding.

The group further highlighted the DPO’s unwavering commitment to improving infrastructure within the division, describing such efforts as morale-boosting for officers and critical to enhancing effective service delivery.

Mr. Egweh noted that the achievements recorded in Sapele should serve as a benchmark for other police divisions across the state, stressing that proactive leadership and community engagement remain key to long-term security.

The organization concluded by calling on community leaders, youth groups, and civil society actors to rally behind the police, particularly in Sapele, to ensure that the gains recorded in the fight against crime are not only sustained but strengthened across Delta State.
