The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, has described education as a “visa to true success,” emphasizing that it is neither heritable nor transferable but a vital prerequisite for greatness. He made this declaration during the institution’s 24th Matriculation Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, where new students were formally admitted into the academic community.

Addressing the newly matriculated students, Prof. Ufuophu-Biri urged them to see their admission as a rare privilege and an opportunity to build a meaningful future. He encouraged them to be good ambassadors of themselves, their parents, and the Polytechnic, stressing that their conduct would reflect not only on their families but also on the institution.

The Rector expressed deep appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering support for the Polytechnic. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari; Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon. Charles Emetulu; Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Andrew Orugbo; and the Oghara community for their continued commitment to the growth and development of the institution.

Describing matriculation as an important academic ritual, the Rector explained that the ceremony symbolizes the formal transition of new students into the academic world. According to him, it marks the beginning of a journey that requires discipline, focus, and determination.

Prof. Ufuophu-Biri cautioned students against viewing education as a scam, insisting that it remains the most reliable pathway to personal and societal transformation. He noted that education bridges social divides, creates equal opportunities, and positions individuals to contribute meaningfully to society.

Reiterating his core message, he stressed that education cannot be inherited or transferred from one person to another. “Education is a visa to success,” he affirmed, urging students to take ownership of their academic pursuits and remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence.

The Rector further charged the students to abide strictly by the rules and regulations of the Polytechnic. He warned against engaging in social vices, cultism, and other destructive behaviors that could derail their academic dreams, advising them instead to focus on learning, character development, and moral integrity.

Administering the matriculation oath, the Registrar, Mr. Efedi Chukwu, reminded the students that the oath signifies their acceptance of the institution’s rules and regulations. He urged them to uphold the values of the Polytechnic and conduct themselves in ways that would bring pride to the institution.

The ceremony, which featured a colorful academic procession led by the Rector and principal officers, was attended by members of the Academic Board, Governing Council, community leaders, parents, and other stakeholders. Since assuming office, Prof. Ufuophu-Biri has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to institutional growth, a development many attribute to his pragmatic, people-centered approach and dedication to good governance.
