Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, is making strides to enhance healthcare delivery and overall wellbeing in his constituency. His recent meeting with a high-level delegation from the Livelihood Impact Fund (LIF) in Abuja underscores his commitment to this cause.
The delegation, led by LIF’s Executive Director Abigail Steinberg, aimed to foster collaboration towards developing a sustainable and inclusive health system for communities in Delta Central and beyond. This meeting signifies a step forward in building partnerships that prioritize healthcare resources for the people.
LIF’s mission aligns seamlessly with Senator Dafinone’s vision for sustainable development and people-centered healthcare. Their combined efforts focus on tackling preventable health challenges that not only affect individual lives but also hinder productivity within the community.
LIF has already made an impressive impact in Nigeria’s health sector. As a foundational partner in the Presidential Initiative on Eyeglasses, known as Jigi Bola 2.0, LIF has successfully distributed 1.3 million free reading glasses across ten states, including Delta State, within the last year. This initiative plays a crucial role in improving vision and quality of life for many.
In addition to providing eyeglasses, LIF is committed to creating a robust health architecture by training over 2,200 Primary Health Care workers nationwide. These trained workers can now perform eye screenings and dispense reading glasses directly in their communities, ensuring that the benefits reach those who need them most.
This work is integral to the National Eye Health Strategic Development Plan (2024–2028), which aims to integrate eye care into Nigeria’s broader Primary Healthcare system. This approach will make essential eye services more accessible, particularly for underserved populations in the country.
Senator Dafinone also welcomed Dr. Oteri Okolo, National Coordinator of the National Eye Health Programme from the Federal Ministry of Health. Their discussions revolved around practical strategies to improve healthcare outcomes, especially for the residents of Delta Central.
In his remarks, Senator Dafinone emphasized that progress for the Urhobo Nation and Delta Central is a collective effort. He reiterated his administration's commitment to forging purposeful partnerships that yield tangible benefits for the community, earning him widespread praise from constituents dedicated to enhancing healthcare delivery.
