The Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Bright Abeke, was reportedly abducted on Friday evening in Sapele, Delta State at gun point.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at about 7:25 p.m. at a hotel along Owumi Road, where the council boss was present.
It was gathered that unidentified armed men arrived the scene in a vehicle and immediately opened fire during the attack. The gunfire, residents say, sent panic through the area.
Eyewitnesses further disclosed that after the shooting incident, the attackers whisked Hon. Bright Abeke away to an unknown destination.
During the chaos, a local vigilante member known as Ufuoma and another person were reportedly injured. The duo sustained injuries as the gunmen carried out the operation.
The injured vigilante member has since been taken to a nearby medical facility, though details of his condition have not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.
As of now, no official statement has been released by relevant authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding the abduction or the whereabouts of the chairman.
Meanwhile, supporters and associates of Hon. Bright Abeke have gathered around the scene and adjoining areas, appealing for timely information and calling on security agencies to ensure his safe return.
