President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State have called on institutions of higher learning to prioritize the production of graduates who will play critical roles in the development of the nation. Their message was delivered at the second convocation ceremony of Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) in Ibusa on November 24, 2023.
During the event, President Tinubu's address, read by Mrs. Stella Ugochukwu, a Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, hailed ADUN for maintaining an uninterrupted academic calendar. He emphasized the importance of universities in nurturing leaders who will contribute significantly to the country's progress. Tinubu also expressed his administration's commitment to the welfare of both teaching and non-teaching staff while highlighting the continuous focus on providing quality education to the youth.
Governor Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, stressed the significance of human capital development in institutions of higher learning. While acknowledging the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence globally, he emphasized that human capital remains the core foundation of its existence, particularly among those exposed to technologically centered education. The governor commended Admiralty University for its efforts in addressing human capital development, a key priority for his administration. He expressed admiration for the institution's progress, particularly in the telecommunications industry, and assured the continued collaboration between the state government and the university.
Governor Oborevwori congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to think innovatively and become exemplary ambassadors of the institution. He emphasized the dominance of Information and Communication Technology in today's world and urged the graduates to take pride in their alma mater. The governor challenged them to go out into the world and achieve remarkable feats, ensuring that the reputation and acceptance of Admiralty University of Nigeria remain high among both domestic and international universities.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Omaji emphasized the guiding principles of integrity and respect for hard work at ADUN. He assured that the graduates of the university are equipped to confront the challenges of society.
