LG Scorecard: Sapele Council Chairman Receives Praise from NUJ for Impressive Performance


The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, led by Comrade Churchill Oyowe, recently paid a courtesy visit to Chief Eugene Inoaghan, the Chairman of Sapele Council. During the visit, Comrade Oyowe commended Chief Inoaghan for his remarkable and noteworthy performance.

The NUJ Council chairman emphasized the media's constitutional responsibility of monitoring, surveillance, and setting benchmarks for developmental progress in both public and private leadership and governance. He mentioned that there were numerous impressive reports about the achievements of Sapele council, which prompted the visit to assess the situation firsthand.

Comrade Oyowe particularly praised Chief Inoaghan for his development initiatives in various sectors, including health, sanitation, security, road infrastructure, and the remarkable transformation of the Council secretariat, especially the ultramodern legislative chamber. Despite the challenge of limited funds, he acknowledged Sapele council's resource management under Chief Inoaghan's leadership, considering him one of the most hardworking chairmen in Delta.

Impressed by Chief Inoaghan's performance, Comrade Oyowe urged the higher authorities to recognize and reward his efforts by granting him higher responsibilities in government after his tenure as chairman concludes. The Delta NUJ chairman emphasized that good work should lead to promotion and greater responsibilities.

In response, Chief Inoaghan expressed gratitude for the visit and credited God as the source of power. He recognized the vital role journalists play in society, stating that governance would be incomplete without journalism. He urged the NUJ to ensure thorough investigation and verification of information before dissemination, emphasizing the watchdog role journalists have in society.

Chief Inoaghan commended journalists in Sapele for their impressive reportage of the area and expressed appreciation to Governor Sherrif Oborevwori for appointing Prince Oromonokpaye as a Senior Special Assistant on community newspapers. He also called for an enhanced conducive environment that enables journalists to thrive in the state.

Highlighting his achievements, Chief Inoaghan mentioned the construction of classrooms for primary schools, road construction, and the establishment of shops at the Amukpe market. He also highlighted the renovation and furnishing of the legislative complex to provide lawmakers with a conducive environment to fulfill their functions.

The visit witnessed the presence of the Vice Chairman of the Council, Rt. Hon. Vincent Ayomanor, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Felix Ayemidejor, HPM, NULGE Chairman, and several Supervisory Councillors, among others.
