Anglican Church Honors Governor Oborevwori as 'Defender of Faith'

In a prestigious ceremony held at Christ Church Pro-Cathedral in Sapele, the Sapele Diocese of the Anglican Communion bestowed the esteemed 'Defender of Faith and Life Encourager' award upon Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State. This recognition was presented to Governor Oborevwori during the 15th anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Sapele, alongside the Investiture of Knights and Ladies.

During the service, Governor Oborevwori delivered the Old Testament lesson, emphasizing the theme of "Exceeding Grace." He extended his heartfelt congratulations to Bishop Erifeta and the entire Sapele Diocese on their remarkable milestone. Moreover, Governor Oborevwori called for unity within the Sapele Diocese, highlighting the essential role of peace in the growth and development of any nation.

Expressing his gratitude for the award, Governor Oborevwori stated, "I am delighted to be associated with you on this momentous occasion of the 15th anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Sapele, Anglican Communion. It is a great honor to receive this award from the Sapele Diocese, and it will inspire me to do even more. I am truly grateful to the Diocese for deeming me worthy of such recognition."

Governor Oborevwori also expressed his desire to visit the main cathedral in Sapele on a future occasion, further underscoring the significance of unity within the Diocese. He emphasized the need for cohesion, referencing the unity demonstrated in other dioceses. The Governor shared his personal journey, reminding the congregation that despite initial doubts about his ability to become Governor, he relied on God's grace, and he now serves all Deltans, regardless of their political affiliations.

Reflecting on his commitment to inclusivity, Governor Oborevwori recounted an instance where he visited the late Chief Frank Kokori, an opposition leader who was ill in the hospital. This gesture surprised Chief Kokori, as even those who had worked for him did not extend the same kindness. Governor Oborevwori emphasized his belief that nobody is worthy of being his enemy and that he sees all residents of Delta State as his constituents who deserve to benefit from his leadership.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the role of faith in promoting peace and security. He acknowledged the contribution of the church in ensuring harmony in Warri and other parts of the state, urging the clergy to continue spreading the word of God to bring about repentance and ultimately establish lasting peace and security.

In his sermon titled "Blessing of Obedience," Most Rev'd Cyril Odutemu, the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of Bendel and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, stressed the importance of obedience in achieving success. He congratulated Bishop Erifeta and the parishioners of the Sapele Diocese on their 15th anniversary and encouraged Christians to remain obedient to God, assuring them that abundance awaits those who follow His commandments.

Expressing his appreciation for Governor Oborevwori's presence at the thanksgiving service, Rt Rev'd Blessing Erifeta, the Bishop of Sapele Diocese, regarded it as a testimony to God's exceeding grace. He expressed gratitude for the church's partnership with the government, particularly in their prayers for good governance and leadership in the country.
