ADVANCING DELTA STATE:THE ROLE OF OBOREVWORI

The journey of advancing Delta State under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was not without its share of obstacles. Just like the early signs of pregnancy, his initiatives initially faced challenges reminiscent of morning sickness. However, as time went on, significant progress began to emerge, much like the early stages of life after conception.

Oborevwori's vision for a greater Delta State was rooted in his M.O.R.E Agenda—Meaningful development through the provision of Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security for all. The impact of his administration on the people of Delta State was evident right from the start, akin to the earliest stages of life.

Right from the moment the various flyovers in the state received approval, it was clear that positive changes were on the horizon. The approval of palliative payments of N10,000 to each of the 50,196 civil servants in Delta State, including the 10 tertiary institutions, for three months showcased the administration's commitment to supporting its workforce. Regular distribution of palliatives by the subsidy committee further demonstrated their dedication to the welfare of the people.

The administration's approval of a rotational work schedule for civil servants between grade Levels 1-14, along with encouraging remote work for higher levels, showed their adaptability and consideration for the needs of the workforce. Additionally, the payment of the 2022/2023 bursary to Delta State students and the launch of the MORE Grant Scheme for the empowerment of petty traders, artisans, and female entrepreneurs highlighted their commitment to fostering opportunities for all.

Through the first phase of the MORE Grant Scheme, 5,426 individuals from poor and vulnerable households, including petty traders, artisans, and female entrepreneurs, benefited from the comprehensive support system. The administration also approved funds to support and upscale direct beneficiaries of the Delta COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) Programme, effectively expanding the reach of the program.

Another significant achievement was the recruitment of over 3,000 primary school teaching and non-teaching staff, which not only addressed employment needs but also bolstered the education sector. Furthermore, the facilitation and guarantee of N40 billion pensions payment to LGA and primary schools pensioners demonstrated the administration's commitment to honoring the service of those who had contributed to the state.

The administration also prioritized healthcare, providing free medical services to pregnant women from conception to delivery, ensuring the well-being of both mother and child. These interventions resulted in massive infrastructural development throughout the state, a testament to their effectiveness.

Across the three Senatorial Districts, the Oborevwori administration achieved remarkable successes. Notably, they made significant strides in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, and workers' welfare, earning the appreciation of the people of Delta State.

Undoubtedly, the administration encountered challenges along the way. However, they responded by investing heavily in reshaping the security infrastructure to keep pace with evolving criminal techniques. These efforts paid off, leading to a significant reduction in breaches of peace, as witnessed and acknowledged by the people of Delta State.

While Governor Oborevwori has not transformed Delta State into an El Dorado, few doubt his unwavering dedication and focus in making the state a better place for its residents. Managing the infrastructure demands of the state, fostering unity in a diverse, multi-ethnic environment, and governing a state known for its intellectual prowess present undeniable challenges. However, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's M.O.R.E Agenda holds great promise for the people of Delta State. Let us join hands in this crusade of massive transformation and work towards making Delta State the land of our dreams.
