A devastating incident unfolded on Tuesday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a truck tragically plunged off the Otedola Bridge, resulting in the loss of one life. The victim, a yet-to-be-identified male, met his untimely demise in this lone accident.
The mishap occurred during the early hours of the day, according to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The truck driver was descending the hill from the Mobil Filling Station towards Otedola when he attempted to avoid a collision with another vehicle. Unfortunately, he lost control of the truck, causing it to crash into the side of the bridge.
As a result of the impact, the driver's compartment became entangled with the bridge, and wheat, the cargo being transported, spilled all over the road. This led to the complete blockage of the route under the bridge, specifically towards Otedola Estate.
Tragically, during the accident, a young adult male who was one of the occupants of the truck fell off the bridge, suffering fatal injuries.
Authorities are urging motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid being stranded in the resulting traffic congestion caused by this unfortunate incident.
